Memorex TravelDrive - Win98 Driver

Postby DeterminedApathy on Fri Apr 23, 2010 2:47 am

The flash drive I've been using for transferring FPR saves may be on its last legs, so I've been attempting to get my computer to recognize the other flash drive I have so I can start using that one instead. This computer is still running Windows 98(!!), so I need to get an updated driver first.

The problem is, the flash drive I have - a Memorex TravelDrive - has since been discontinued, so I can't get a driver from the manufacturer's site anymore. I haven't tried contacting support but, since it's discontinued, I don't know how much help they'd be anyway. Aside from that, I've tried Googling the driver - Version 1.0B for Win98SE/ME - but every site that's come up was either hotlinking the since-removed official download (big f'n help :x ) or otherwise a pretty dodgy site.

So, basically, my question is: Are there still any good places to get this driver, or am I screwed?

Tried something like that? Installing some generic drivers?

Ooh, no, I'd forgotten that there was such a thing as generic drivers.

Anyway, I tried installing that, and it worked to a point. I was able to get my computer to read the TravelDrive, but as soon as I tried to copy files onto it, it started blue-screening out with "Cannot write to Drive D:" errors.

It's a start, though. I haven't really tried much with it yet, so maybe if I work on it some more, I'll get it working correctly. Either way, thanks for the suggestion. :)

How do you still find software support (av software, especially) for Windows 98?

Because the more modern computer I had burned out (literally) and I wound up having to use the ancient relic with Win98 just for an internet connection? :P

Well, yeah, if I really wanted to know the answer, I wouldn't be asking here. But, I haven't even seen a computer that uses Win98 in.... I don't know how long. I'm just curious how you could even get by with a Win98 OS. Not interested enough to try to actually do some work and look up the answer, mind you. Just interested enough to post a one-second response in this thread.
