Playing Playstation Imports, Game Enhancer/PS System Problem

Postby Darktechnique on Fri May 07, 2010 8:29 am

Is there any sure fire way to tell if it is my import games or my system that is causing the problems when trying to play PS imports ?

Also is there any 100% way to play PS imports besides buying a japanese PS ?

I will purchase one if I absolutley have to.

I only ask this because I tried playing Virtual Pro Wrestling earlier this week & it would mess up when trying to play the actual match.

I also just got Touken Retsuden late last night & tried playing it today. It will load up & play fine with the game enhancer & swap disc method until the time to start the match when the screen seemed to take forever to load so, I think there is a problem.

I also have a flip top PS2 but do not know how to succesfully play PS1 imports on it. I have a codebreaker & tried loading the game on the PS2 but, could not get it to work. Maybe I need really detailed instructions.

I am very concerend that it is eithr my system or my games, which would suck becuase, the Virtual Pro Wrestling game, I cannot send back & I just got the Touken Retsuden from eBay.

Other games seem to worrk fine & I did clean the system with a cd/dvd/game cleaning disc.

If anyone knows any tests I can preform, or can offer any help or soultions to my problems please post or aim me - Brooddogg/email me at Brooddogg@aol.com

I haven't been there for quite awhile, but MrDK's site - purogamer.com - used to have a tutorial for loading PS1 imports (w/ a Gameshark, iirc).

I have an Action Replay that plugs into the I/O port on the back of first gen PSXs. It came with a spring to hold the "closed" button down. Insert a US disk, turn on PSX, wait for disk to STOP spinning, switch in JP disk, press star.

WORKS 100% all the time.

The only prob is finding first gen PSXs with that little door on the back. I've been through two (they just stop working after a while). But this is a sure-fire way to play PSX imports with NO problems. :)

I guess I wasn't as clear as in explaining this as i thought I was.

I have a game enhancer & the spring & can get the games to load with the swap trick on the PS but, the just wont play correctly.

Is there any way to tell if it is my games - Virtual Pro Wrestling & Touken Retsuden or my PS system that is causing the problem ?

That is why I was asking about playing them on my flip top Ps2 because, I am trying to see if it is the system or my games.

It's most likely your system. If it loads and then appears to be skipping, then the problem is probably the motor that spins the spool.

I don't know about using a ps2 though.

If it didn't want to load the game it wouldn't load anything. It doesn't load for a while and then stop.

Try regular ps1 games and see if they skip and struggle to load too. If these are copies then it's probably a bad download. If they're the original games then your laser may just be dirty or worn out (ps1 is hella old and ps2 isn't exactly new either...).

It's 2010, as much as I encourage people to test out imports at some point you've gotta let go. You can go get the SNES games and play them perfectly but the playstation era is going to be hell until they can be emulated perfectly which may be the case now but I don't really know.

Importing on the ps2 wasn't rocket science but people had problems loading games back when these things were new let alone trying to load them now...
