I just got the game yesterday and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. I can't wait to use the advice seen earlier in the thread. I do have a question... I see there are 5 "base saves" on the homepage. Do I just select only 1 of them and then use the others as add-ons? If so, which base save does most people use?

A base save is really just a save that was created with the US version of the game instead of the Japanese. The only reason it matters is that there's a glitch with converted (from Japanese version to US) saves that renders the referee edit mode unusable.

There are a lot more than 5 base saves around, btw.

yes, as long as you use the proper folder structure, a cdr will work.

Are there any PS3 saves for the Japanese version of FPR? If not, is there anyway I can convert them myself?

I think converting ps3 saves is major pain in the ass at this point because the save builder doesn't recognize it. You have to convert it to ps2, then to the JPN version, and then convert the jpn ps2 file back to ps3. Sounds annoying but I don't think there's any other way right now...

I have a question also, I have loaded atleast six different saves on my PS3 and never had a problem. The other day I loaded one & went to copy it to my game and it said that an error occured during the copy ? Does anyone know what that means ? Is it a file that doesn't work ? Or is it something else.

Big bump for thread.

This guide is the PS2 to PS3 conversion but is there a way to convert PS3 to PS2 format?

How do you convert it to PS2?

To convert from PS3 to PS2, all you need is this tool.

http://www.ps2savetools.com/download.php?op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=87

Don't know about the other way around, but from what I understand you need a PS3 to do it. (I get the feeling it's been discussed in this thread, but I haven't read anything :P )

The other way around (PS2 to PS3) seems to be covered in this thread.

But wow, huge thanks for that tool!! How certain are you that this is what is needed?

And does anyone know HOW to use it? The process?

I've used PSV Save Exporter a couple of times to convert PS3 files to PS2. McSiny's pack comes to mind. He only posted the .psv file originally. It's a little more complicated than just using Exporter to convert.

Basically, the steps go like this: open Exporter and load the the PSV file. Use the option under "File" to load. After the .psv file is loaded, go to the File menu again and select "Extract All Files". Choose a destination and resave the file to your hard drive. Use the "Extract All Files" option. I've never gotten the file to save properly using the "Extract Selected Files" option.

The application will now save the game files in a folder on your hard drive. The files aren't compressed, however, so you can't simply copy it to your USB stick. You now have to run PS2 Save Builder and convert the files to a format your save device recognizes.

Load PS2 Save Builder. Now, in a separate window, open up the folder you just created with Save Exporter. The game files aren't in a format supported by Save Builder, so you can't load the files using the menu commands as you normally do. PS2 Save Builder won't recognize any of the formats. You can still load the files by dragging them one by one into Save Builder, though. The best thing to do is resize your windows so one window is visible on the left side, and one is visible on the right, and you can see both the save files and the software interface on the screen at the same time.

Open up the folder you just created. There will be three files: the game file named with the root id of the game the file is for (BASLUS-21702, if the save is for the Agetec version of Fire Pro); and icon and view files. Left-click on one of the files and drag it into the PS2 Save Builder window. Release the mouse button and drop the file under "File name" so the name of the file appears in Save Builder like it normally would. Drag and drop all three files in the folder in this way. Normally, when you open a file in PS2 Save Builder, the BASLUS file is on the first line, with the icon and view files below it (in that order), so that's the way I set it up when I drag and drop. No idea if the order actually matters, though.

Once you have all three files loaded into Save Builder, continue as normal. Change the root id the way you normally do if you also need to convert the region code for the file (from Japanese to US, for example). If the file is already set to work with your region, simply select "Save As" and choose the format for your save device from the drop-down menu. It'll save a compressed .max or .cbs file for you. Should work now.

It's a bit of a pain, but it works ok.

Edit: Corrected a typo.

Wow WOW WOW!!

WOW :)

Thank you SO much, this is an awesome help :)

This just truly put the "Complete" in the How-to-Guide for PS3 saves :) Really really appreciated. The info was for a friend with a PS3 but he had a save file for me so this really helps me. As does the general knowledge for me and everyone else since i didn't see it anywhere else. Thanks again :D

When I downloaded Save Exporter last fall, I had to use google to find a few explanations of how it worked, but none of the explanations were very good. There's a instruction sheer in the Exporter zip file, but it isn't very good. The trickiest part was figuring out how to get the files opened in Save Builder. Until I tried it, I had no idea you could drag and drop files into the app manually.

I see many guides for dowloading ps3 saves. How about uploading? Is it as simple as reversing the steps?

you plug a sd card (what i use), memory stick, compact flash card or usb thumb drive or usb hard drive into the PS3.

then you browse to the save on the PS3 and select copy, and then select the card or drive you just plugged in.

once the save copies to the device, then you plug that device into a PC and the save will be located at /PS3/EXPORT/PSV/BASLUS-21702.PSV on the card or drive that you exported the save to.

then what i do from there is use WinRAR to create a ZIP of the entire folder structure from the /PS3/ folder so that the entire /PS3/EXPORT/PSV/ folder structure is in tact, however some people just drop the BASLUS-21702.PSV into a ZIP file, and let other people deal with the folder structure themselves.

That's not very nice  I like it when you do up the folders for us 8)

So it is as simple as reversing the steps then! Wewt! Just gotta remember to zip the file. Good to know! Now I can make saves! :o 8)

Thanks a bunch Faceless! Yoo da mayn!

Not to bump this, but I just found this out. My son has a PS2 and me a PS3. I have the PS2 adaptor thing that converts PS2 saves to the PS3. I just found out it works the other way around too. I took my backup firepro save that was on a virtual PS2 memory card, copied it to the PS2 memory card in the adaptor, and then put the memory card in my son's PS2. It worked. If anyone has done this before sorry. If no one has then I'll post exactly what I did step for step. Also I think the firmware has to be update to date too on the PS3. Mine's at 2.30.

I've done it before using PSV Exporter and PS2 Save Builder to convert the PSV files to .max, if that's what you're talking about. I don't think there's a tutorial written up,but I posted step by step instructions for Orchigeese in another thread.

^^^I took the save, copied it from the virtual PS2 mem. card on the PS3, then copied it to the PS2 memory card in the adaptor thing while it was connected to my PS3 via usb cable. Then took the mem. card, put it in my son's PS2 and it loaded the save in firepro. I wasnt trying to covert it to .max.

Both of those methods work, but the problem from what I've seen isn't really converting PS3 saves to PS2 saves, that's easy enough with Save Builder and PSV Exporter. What needs to be figured out is converting PS2 saves for the PS3, without the use of memory card adapters and AR Max'es and such.

I see. U can't go from PS2 to PS3 without either the adaptor, save builder, PSV Exporter or an AR Max.

Correct. I wasn't aware your method would work, but, since I don't own a PS3, I'd have no way to test it anyways (and I don't pay much attention to PS3 news since I probably won't buy one). Cool idea, though. Makes sense that, if the memory adapter lets you convert PS2 saves to PS3, you can reverse-engineer the process. I don't think it's been mentioned, so you might want to post the steps if there's anything more to it than what you said.

My method - PSV Exporter, Save Builder, AR MAX - is what is needed if you want to convert a PSV file to a PS2 format, but don't have access to a PS3 and the Memory Adapter.

^^^ Yeah. When I bought the adaptor thing, on the back though it said you could only use it to put saves on the PS3, and not the other way around. Then I was on some board (can't remember which one), and someone said if you had xx.x firmware (again, can't remember), you could do it PS3 (via virtual PS2 mem. card) to PS2 using the adaptor. I'll post the stuff later today.
