I skimmed through the video of the guy streaming himself playing the game and I'm looking forward to when this hits XBLA. It obviously looks different then what we're used to but seeing how true to the original the controls seem to be, this should be fun. I'm interested to see who gets added to the roster for this. Maybe some more alumni from the original?

Other than the video I saw with the dumb AI.

Like the original Wrestlefest didn't have dumb AI?

This is better than the TNA game??

This game doesn't really do anything for me. I been playing the free version. I'm very aware of the original. I don't get the 8-bit nes music. It defnintely not retina display. Looks like a 3GS iphone game, not a 4. I know its not a sim, but all you really do is auto lock up and smash the virtual buttons and see what you get. I think, i'm not sure..

Seems like they emphasized all the wrong things in their attempt to make it like the original.

Cell shading probably seemed like a nice compromise between old graphics and new, but the sprites with their distinctive style was a lot of what made WrestleFest so fun.

What I don't like...
Can't pin during a royal rumble
No bossman running splash
Can't run after you Irish whip an opponent
Can't choose your opponent in an exhibition
The impact graphics happen too late
Animations cycle through their images too quickly

This just makes me realize how great FPR is. If I want a retro 2d wrestling game, nothing will ever top FPR.
Of course,it's apples and oranges, but the whole nostalgia feel sucked me in and then I just went and played FPR instead.

Seriously, if Agetek could port it, why the heck can't THQ, in their effort to improve their core franchises, simply pay spike to do an hd Version of FPR with a wwe license and poof! Instant hit on iPad, Xbox arcade and PSN.
No new programming needed- just a poopload of new drawings, but still probably pretty cheap for them. Just makes me realize that FPR being ported was the single most exciting wrestling game moments of the last decade! No more flip-topping and wading through translation and it's the best all around wrestling game ever!

Bottom line?
If you itch for 2d wrestling games, it's best to play FPR, then the old wrestlefest rom, and then the import Champion Wrestler from Taito on ps1. I'd love to have an arcade cabinet with all of those running and I wouldn't sully it with this re-make that has some of the feel and some of the looks of the original but NONE of the soul.

Kinda reminds me of how I have TigerMask's translation/hack of Final Firepro Wrestling on my cell phone...

It's tough to settle on a crappy remake when that's the case.

I plan on putting his hack for FFPW on my iPod. I'm glad I didn't buy this when it came out and I didn't update my OS to play the free version. Looks like I'd be better off buying a GBA emulator instead.

Sorry to bump this old thread but I thought Wrestlefest was coming out as a download for the consoles today. Nothing on the Xbox yet. I tried checking around online to see if the release date had been moved but didn't turn anything up. Anyone know if the date was changed?
