Would anyone be able to explain to me, if it is allowed, how to make a patch for a game? :?: I have occasional free time, and really want a friend to play koc ii, but the only way he will is if there is a patch for it. Knowing basic Japanese, and studying it in college, I figure that, if it is not incredibly difficult, I would like to try to make a patch for it...

Thanks for any feedback, and I wish I logged into websites more, but I'm always to lazy to submit my info each time, ...

First question: do you have enough programming know-how that you could make a good living at it? If the answer is no, there doesn't really need to be a second question.

Knowing Japanese is probably one of the least important concerns.

For that question, I am learning multiple aspects regarding computer science while focusing on the game development aspect. I know c++,java,VB, and if you call it a language, action script, to some extent...

I think I could figure out parts of it if I know what goes down.

I'm just curious, why is a patch being worked on when the game has an English version?

Because the patch was started years before the English version came out. Actually, Joe seemed to abandon the project after the Eng version came out. The last update was a couple of years ago.

Besides, some of us consider the Agetec version to be a fairly awful localization/translation and still play the Japanese version of the game.

Aside from the text, how does it differ from the English version?

It doesn't. Agetec just translated the text (badly, in a lot of places). The only change they made was correcting the run-up post skills for several default wrestlers. A dozen or so wrestlers - Milano Collection AT, for example - have run-up post moves in their movesets, but don't have their default climbing skill set to "Run Up Post". So, in the Japanese version, they can't use the post run-up moves.

Other than that, the game engine is exactly the same.

Are the default wrestlers exactly the same in both versions?

Yes. All Agetec did was translate the Japanese text to English.

Can anyone explain to me the benefits of the patch when the American version is as cheap as it is?

Well the original main benefit was that the patch came out before the American version was even being planned. While Stage 6 came out just a little before the NA version was announced, the start of the patch project was much further back. So that was the biggest benefit 8)

If you were to compare them now - it wouldn't make sense to buy a JP FPR just to get the patch when the NA version is less expensive. But if you already have the JP version, the patch is a lot more accurate in many people's opinions (including mine). It totally avoids the TOTAL personality logic "yes/no" botch as well as some funky move translation names. (and seriously, teh whole point of translating is to make things clearer so the "yes/no" botch was pretty ridiculous. We still get so many questions about that and it was SO easily avoided by Agetec). Also for some inexplicable reason, the NA version got rid of a TON of Japanese voices. Granted I don't use that many, but they're nice to have. That said - Agetec did fix a few problems with FPR like with certain wrestlers not having "run up" the post skill despite them having actual run up moves. If I was just choosing between the patch and the NA version and had equal access/price to both, I'd go with the patch every time out of 10 :D
