**What Kind of TV Do You Play On?**

Postby EvilDoink87 on Sat Dec 03, 2011 2:10 am

Emulators aside, I was just wondering what type of TVs you guys play FP on?

When I first got the game, I played it on my old 19" standard TV. Recently, I've been using a bigger, yet still primitive, 36" Sanyo. I noticed that the resolution and overall picture quality did not look nearly as good on the 36" as it did on the 19". Everything on the bigger screen looks more pixelated and not as crisp.

I've never played the game on anything else, so I was curious how FP looks on more modern, flat-screen TVs. Since the games graphics engine is pretty ancient I wasn't sure if a newer TV would improve the visuals or just make the pixelation even more obvious.

Thanks for any feedback.

I play it on a dinky like 12 or 14 inch in my room. I tried it on a 36 inch and it didn't have the same feel to it. I stick to playing it on the tiny TV, gives it that old school feel.

That's exactly how I'd describe it. I thought playing the game on a big screen would be awesome, but it honestly doesn't look as good and that feeling isn't there. The resolution and clarity of the sprites just look cleaner on smaller TVs it seems.

This isn't me bashing the graphics. I grew up on the SNES so the throwback look is awesome and gives the game a warm, fuzzy nostalgic charm. :D

My PC is in my living room hooked up to a 42" Samsung LCD, I mostly play on emulators now because FPR was never released in the UK - I have an American copy of the game and have to use a slide card with my PS2. http://www.samsungpn50c450.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Samsung-PN42C450.jpg

My PS2 in my bedroom (mostly because of DVD) and that's hooked up to a rubbish 17" LCD (non-HD!) Olivetti monitor. http://imagenes.solostocks.com/m1943509/olivetti-monitor-tff-17-ref-ltv-17p.jpg

Fortunately though, my girlfriend should be moving in sometime in the new year and has a 24" Samsung LCD from the same range as mine in her bedroom back at her parent's house. I'll recycle my POS monitor for a refurb arcade machine I'm working on (perfect for Slam Masters).

Picture wise the 17" is terrible. Even though FPR predates 1080p it looks great on the big screen. Seriously, there are details on it I can't even see on my smaller screen (there is some annoying ghosting sometimes too - usually when the bomb goes off in deathmatches, this doesn't happen on the 1080p) It's a shame none of the emulators I've used have graphics filters, because this game it sprite based I would like to run it using something like 2xsai, but the processing power required would be huge for the rest of the PS2 library, I think this is why I haven't seen this feature around.

From my experience I prefer the game on a big screen, maybe it's just because my smaller one is so bad. I might take some photographs to show you what I mean.

I'd love to see some pics if you have the time.

Right now, I'm torn between emulating or using my brothers 19" widescreen. The 36" antique I play on now doesn't do FP any justice at all.

wow, we're really running low on new topic ideas.

i play mine on an old ass wood frame floor model. its 30ish inches i think and sometimes it starts up in black and white.

i got it free from a friend of mine and it only has my ps2 and an old vcr hooked up to it, so i can play fire pro and watch my old ECW tapes.

Okay. Sorry to go off topic, but Sam Sharp needs to join the FPCPP for the fart CRITICAL alone.

Now back on topic, I play on a 1080p 22' LCD Vizio.

That's even funnier if you remember the specific reason Tromataker gave a few years ago for why the Midnight Rambler defeated him

I've taken 3 different photos for each (far away, near by & close up) and I've put links in rather than images so I don't have to downsize to 600px wide.

42" LCD 1080p (with HDMI from PC)

One from TV again to show clarity of a critical.

One thing I didn't mention is that I still have my Super Nintendo hooked up to my 42" as well (you can see it in my pics along with my PS1 and Xbox360, Gamecube, N64 and Wii are out of shot.)

The SNES is by FAR the most primitive console I still use, but because it's 2D and sprite based it looks GOOD when upscaled (although my Dad has a Atari 2600 on his 50" Bravia and it looks awful )

The early 3D consoles (N64 / PS1) look bad on a big screen, they do pixelate no end, Goldeneye looks pretty decent and so does Wave Race but other classics like Mario 64 and FF7 look dreadful on a big screen. I think FPR works out well because it's a much higher res than the SNES but is still 2D, I'd like to know if anyone has played it on a projector, see how it is at over 100".
